ALEXANDER SLADKOVSKY - Russian conductor, the People's Artist of Russia, artistic director and chief conductor of the State Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Tatarstan, Artistic director of the International Festival named after Sergey Rachmaninov “White Lilac” has been awarded the Sergei Rachmaninov International Award in the nomination “SPECIAL PROJECT IN THE NAME OF RACHMANINOV” for organizing the International Festival of the Sergei Rachmaninov "White Lilac" in Kazan. 

The White Lilac International Festival is dedicated to Sergei Rachmaninov. The composer visited Kazan two times (in 1910 and 1916), when inspecting musical institutions. He was also in friendly terms with the famous Russian bass - Fyodor Shalyapin. Besides, another theory is that the Rachmaninov's had some Tatar roots. Thus, there are three reasons why this Festival is founded in Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan. For nine years, the festival brought together many prominent Russian and foreign musicians.

Alexander Sladkovsky graduated from the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatoire and the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire. Prize-winner at the III International Sergei Prokofiev Competition in St Petersburg. Made his debut as a conductor at the St Petersburg State Conservatoire Opera and Ballet Theatre. Was Principal Conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of the St Petersburg State Cappella and Conductor of the Novaya Rossiya State Symphony Orchestra (2006–2010). Has been an assistant to Mariss Jansons and Mstislav Rostropovich. Since 2010 he has been Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the State Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Tatarstan.

Over his eight years working with the orchestra he substantially raised the ensemble's status in Russia's musical and public life. The State Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Tatarstan became the first Russian regional orchestra to produce recordings on the and Mezzo TV stations. In 2016 under the baton of Sladkovsky, the musicians appeared at the Brucknerhaus in Linz and the Goldener Saal of the Musikverein in Vienna.

Founder and Artistic Director of seven music festivals: Rakhlin Seasons, White Lilac, Kazan Autumn, Concordia, Denis Matsuev and Friends, Artistic Revelation and Miras. In 2014 he appeared with the State Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Tatarstan at UNESCO headquarters in Paris. Orchestras conducted by Alexander Sladkovsky have taken part in major Russian and international festivals, among them Musical Olympus, St Petersburg Musical Spring, Arts Square, The Cherry Orchard, Rodion Shchedrin. Self-Portrait, Young Euro Classic, Crescendo, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Budapest Spring Festival, the Wörthersee Classics Festival, La Folle Journée in Japan, Hibla Gerzmava Invites, Opera Apriori and the Bratislava Music Festival among others.

Collaborates with famous recording companies. Has recorded An Anthology of Music by Tatarstan's Composers and the album Brightening-Up for the labels Sony Music and RCA Red Seal (2012), three symphonies by Mahler and all of Shostakovich's symphonies and concerti with the State Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Tatarstan for Melodiya (2016).

In 2016 he was named "Conductor of the Year" by the newspaper Musical Review and "Man of the Year in Culture" by the magazine Business Quarter and the e-newspaper Business Online. In 2015 he was awarded the Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov Memorial Medal and the "Duslyk" Order of Friendship of the Republic of Tatarstan.

Engagements for the current season include concerts at the State Salikh Saidashev Grand Concert Hall in Kazan, the Great Hall of the Moscow State Conservatoire and the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow and participation in Moscow's Festival of the Union of Composers.
