EPIFANIO COMIS - Sergei Rachmaninov International Award 2013
2013 Sergey Rachmaninov International Award has been awarded to Italian pianist and conductor Epifanio Comis, professor at Bellini State Conservatory and at Accademia Pianistica Siciliana in Catania.
Sergey Rachmaninov has a special place in Epifanio Comis’ musical life. Repeatedly they mentioned in the international press about the extraordinary "Russian" spirituality in his performaning of music by Rachmaninov.
As a pianist, he plays all the piano concertos with orchestra and most of his music from solo and chamber repertoire. As a conductor, E. Comis conducted by memory symphonies and all piano concertos at the festival by Rachmaninoff in 2013. As a pedagogue, professor Comis brought up the talented young pianist Alessandro Mazzamuto, who in 2013 received the International Prize in the field of classical music ICMA (International Classical Music Awards) as the best young artist for the recording of a monographic disc with the music of Rachmaninov.
In 2011, Epifanio Comis created his own high school of Performing Arts - Sicilian Piano Academy (Accademia Pianistica Siciliana), where students are instilled a special love for the music by Sergei Rachmaninov.
This award is recognition of the creative work of a foreign artist in popularizing the music of the great Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninov. Pianist and conductor Epifanio Comis worthily deserved this award for the active performance of Rachmaninov music and a deep love for the traditions of performing.
